How to raise an American Express credit card complaint in India in 2026: Amex customer care number (24x7 toll-free), and the email and phone number for every escalation level, from the Executive Correspondence Unit to the Principal Nodal Officer and the RBI Ombudsman

A charge on your American Express card you don't recognise. Membership Rewards points that didn't credit, a fee you weren't expecting, or a dispute that's been open too long. You've called Amex customer care, and it's still not fixed.

American Express cards in India are issued by American Express Banking Corp., a foreign bank regulated by the RBI. Its grievance process has five levels inside the bank, more than most Indian banks, and every level has its own email and phone number. Here's how to raise an Amex credit card complaint and escalate it.

The phone lines for Levels 2 to 5 are open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. All details are from American Express India's customer complaint and grievance redressal policy.

For card fraud, call the helpline straight away to block your card, then also report it on the National Cyber Crime Helpline, 1930.

How to raise an Amex credit card complaint: step by step

Level 1: American Express Helpline

  • Call: 1800 419 3646, 24x7 and toll-free (also printed on the back of your card)

  • Chat: Mobile Messaging in the Amex App, available 24x7

  • Online: the complaint form on Amex's website

  • Branch: the complaint register at an Amex branch

Note down your complaint reference number.

Level 2: Manager – Executive Correspondence Unit

If you're not satisfied with the helpline's response, escalate to the Manager – Executive Correspondence Unit:

  • Email: Manager-Customerservicesindia@aexp.com

  • Phone: +91 124 6702523 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm)

Amex says these escalation contacts are only for grievances. For general queries, use the helpline.

Level 3: Head of Customer Service

For further escalation:

  • Email: Head-Customerservicesindia@aexp.com

  • Phone: +91 124 6702527 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm)

Level 4: Nodal Officer

If you're still not satisfied:

  • Email: AEBCNodalOfficer@aexp.com

  • Phone: +91 124 6702386 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm)

Level 5: Principal Nodal Officer

The final level inside American Express:

  • Email: pnoindia@aexp.com

  • Phone: +91 124 6702638 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm)

Postal address for Levels 2 to 5: American Express Banking Corp., Cyber City, Tower C, DLF Bldg. No. 8, Sector 25, DLF City Phase II, Gurgaon – 122002 (Haryana). Address your letter to the right level.

If Amex decides to reject your complaint fully or partly, RBI rules require its Internal Ombudsman to review it before the final reply. That happens inside the bank; you don't need to apply for it.

Level 6: RBI Ombudsman

Amex's policy says that if you're not satisfied with its resolution, or you haven't had a response within 30 days of logging your complaint, you can approach the RBI Ombudsman:

  • Online: cms.rbi.org.in, where you can also track your complaint

  • Email: crpc@rbi.org.in

  • Help line (not for filing): 14448

  • Post: Centralised Receipt and Processing Centre, Reserve Bank of India, 4th Floor, Sector 17, Chandigarh – 160017

You must file within 90 days of the bank's timeline expiring or its last reply, whichever is later. It's free, and you don't need a lawyer or an agent.

Insurance and credit report complaints

  • Insurance bought through Amex: email Insurance.complaints@aexp.com. Amex says these are resolved within 14 days, as IRDAI requires.

  • Errors on your credit report: under RBI's rules, if a credit report complaint isn't resolved within 30 calendar days, you're entitled to compensation for the delay. Amex's policy says it credits any such compensation to your bank account or card account within 5 working days of resolving the complaint.

What changed with the RBI Ombudsman in July 2026

The Reserve Bank – Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2026 replaced the 2021 scheme from 1 July 2026:

2026 scheme

Within 90 days of the bank's timeline expiring or its last reply, whichever is later

Compensation for consequential loss

Up to ₹20 lakh

Up to ₹30 lakh

Compensation for time, expenses and harassment

Up to ₹1 lakh

Up to ₹3 lakh

Your rights on common Amex credit card complaints

Problem

What the RBI rules say

Card not closed after you asked

The bank must close it within 7 working days of your request (once dues are cleared), or pay you ₹500 a day until it's closed

Unauthorised transaction

Report it within 3 working days of the alert and your liability is zero

Card charged but merchant not paid

POS and online card payments must be reversed within T+5 days, or the bank pays ₹100 for every day of delay

Changes to charges

The bank must tell you at least 30 days before a change in charges takes effect

How to write an Amex complaint that gets resolved

  • Your name, registered mobile number and email

  • The last few digits of your Amex card (never the full card number)

  • Transaction date, amount and reference number

  • Every earlier complaint number, with copies of Amex's replies

  • What went wrong, and the exact fix you want ("credit the 5,000 Membership Rewards points missing from my September statement", not "fix my points")

  • Statements, SMS alerts and screenshots as proof
